Among many other things, below are some benefits that we would like to highlight. From our presence at meet the firms, to the speakers we bring out to our weekly meetings, we hope that you will find our membership greatly valuable to your professional success.

We are here to help you with your CPA planning needs; spanning from which classes you still need to take, to how you should aim to get those last few units you need, we are here to help you. It is simple, all we need to know is which classes you have taken and we can give you a map for your future.

Résumé Book

Getting your name out to the firms is very tough, but we are here to help you and make that process easier. By consolidating your résumé's and sending them out to all of the firm professionals you meet, your chances of being remembered by a firm professional substantially go up.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

Our members have a great opportunity in preparing tax returns for residents in Riverside County. Training is provided to its participants to enable them to prepare tax returns for low income families. Real-world accounting experience is tough to come by and this is a great way to set yourself apart. You are working with real tax returns and are making a difference in the community. Many current professionals give credit to the VITA program for helping jumpstart their careers in accounting.

Meet the Firms

This event is co-sponsored by the Accounting Society and the Career Center to bring out accounting firms to the UCR campus. In one night, you can expect meet people from each firm, learn about their company culture, figure out the specific work they do, and make a professional connection. This event has proven to be a useful tool for students searching for internships or full-time positions.

Accounting firms mainly recruit during the fall quarter before busy season and recruiters use Meet the Firms to learn about the potential candidates before the interview. Getting an edge on the competition is one of the main things the recruiting game is all about and going to an event such as Meet the Firms could be another opportunity to set you apart from the rest.

Firm Meetings

Throughout the quarter, we have professionals from various accounting firms come and give presentations to our members. The professionals will talk about their firm, the available positions within the firm, and the recruiting process that an applicant will need to go through. Often times, the firms ask what our members want to know about and personalize their presentations specifically around that.

After the meetings, we encourage our members to stick around and speak with the professionals. The professionals would like to know you on a more personal level. You will have the opportunity to grab a business card and keep in contact with them throughout the year. You never know where one connection may take you.

Firm Tours

The Accounting Society aims to plan firm tours throughout the year. Members from the Accounting Society will meet at a firm and, as a group, take a tour of their building or office. Firm tours allow members to see the environment that professionals work in and network with many professionals. Tours typically conclude with a fun social event that allows professionals and members to get to know each other, ask more questions, and network.

Social Events

We aim to abolish the negative stigma that accountants are boring. During our social events, we give members the opportunity to get to know each other and have some fun while doing it! Social events are used to develop great relationships and contacts with other members, professionals, and faculty. We attempt to schedule between one and two social events per quarter. In the past, we have gone to Getaway Cafe and the local bowling alley. This is one aspect of the organization where the members have a lot of control, if the members would like to go somewhere, we will work on making it happen! These events are great ways to network with fellow members and have a good time meeting new friends.

Spring Banquet

It is strongly recommended that you attend these events because we invite professionals from firms and organizations that would like to get to know you on a professional and personal basis. You will convene with members, professionals, and faculty while enjoying each other's company and conversation. Great contacts and relationships are built at these events. Several things will be presented to members, such as scholarships and firm memrobelia.
